I have always found peace and inspiration in nature. From a young age, I have been drawn to the woods. The spring flowers feel like old friends, and I still greet their return with excitement, appreciating the familiar rhythms of nature. My background as a science teacher and wilderness educator has deepened my understanding of the environment, but it is through my art that I truly express my love for the outdoors.
For the past 24 years, I’ve lived in Athens, Ohio, spending as much time as possible outdoors. I am completing a certificate in botanical illustration from the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh and am taking classes with botanical artist Ann Swan. Through colored pencil, graphite, and pen & ink, I aim to capture the delicate beauty of plants and landscapes, reflecting the diversity of life I encounter in nature.
Appalachia is home to an incredible diversity of plants and animals, but much of it is fragile and threatened. It is my hope that my illustrations spark a sense of appreciation and wonder, motivating others to protect the beauty of our community for future generations.
